A New Day
A Kinda New-y Blog
Look around! Beams of light are streaming onto your computer screen, are they not? I am a big fan of the new style of this blog... it's refreshing and clean looking. I am interested to hear feedback on it. Blogreaders? Do we like the change? Yes? No?
Anyway, I haven't written for a couple of centuries, mainly because there's been lots of stuff going on. I spent the majority of last weekend locked in a tiny room with three bandmates and an old dude who kinda looks like Neil Young and calls himself "Don the Guitarman." Gotta tell ya - purchasing recording time is a trip. A lot of money, but a trip. Don the Guitarman did all our recording for us and helped us mix, and although he was kinda creepy and asked my bandmates creepy questions about me while I was in the booth singing, he seemed pretty cool and did a good job helping us record. Not only that, but he was impressed with our songwriting and asked us if we'd like to "jam" with him on a couple of tunes he'd written for an ongoing gig he has at "Rockin' Willie's Road House." (Although, according to Don, the "use" is not functional on the Rockin' Willie's sign, so all the regulars refer to it affectionately as "Rockin' Willie's Road Ho.") Don even wrote a song... about Rockin' Willie's Road Ho... it's kinda weird. I now sing backup on it. A Great Fall and Don the Guitarman are preparing to do a couple of shows together at Rockin' Willie's. Now, I have never been to Rockin' Willies, but I picture the kind of place that Arnie always encounters when he travels from the future to terminate John Connor. (This of course, does not include the bar he encounters in T-3.) So... I'm kinda curious to see how this goes. But hey, you gotta start somewhere, right?
In addition to the recording madness, I've also been fighting off a killer cold, which has put me in a non-bloggy mood lately. Also, my mother is preparing for some pretty hardcore surgery, which is kinda a bummer and she's been requiring lots of moral support lately. She hasn't been on my nerves much these days, so I'm happy to oblige. She's a cool lady. I always feel bad when I talk (or blog) smack about her.
And there's even more going on! This past weekend, Joshie McJosherton came into town to spend the weekend with me, which was really great. Got to spend some time with Big Rich and a Big bonfire, we drank some, hung out with the band, drove to a Wendy's far far (Pfarr?) away, and had a generally jolly time. We also attended a Shins concert (which was free, and that's always awesome, despite the drunk asshole who nearly broke my foot when he fell on it). Oh yeah, there was homemade strawberry shortcake too, which was delicious. (I helped!)
The lovely Tamara Snyder will be arriving in Pittsburgh tomorrow, and the lovely Sarah Benvenurinarytractinfection and I are quivering with anticipation. Life can never be dull when Tam's around. There will be laughter and drinking and fun at '80's night on Thursday, (despite my having to work on Friday... pshht, you only live once.)
And after that, my freshman year roommate Caroline (whom I still converse with from time to time) will be coming to Pittsburgh to see Aqualung at Club Cafe. I can kill multiple birds with one stone here, because not only do I get to see Aqualung, but I get to hang with a friend I haven't seen in a long time, and while I'm at Club Cafe, I can flirt with whomever is in charge and slip him/her a demo in the hopes to snag a gig for the band. Genius!
And speaking of goings on, I am glad to see we (and by "we" I mean "everyone except me because I am the only person on the planet who isn't Catholic") have a new Pope! Despite being Presbyterian, I am mighty pleased to see this whole procedure... I came home on my lunch break today and turned on the tv to see a bunch of foreign people and reporters debating for a very long time about the color of some smoke... and at first I was confused. But I learned a lot today in watching the whole "election of a new Pope" process... I really had no idea how it was done before, and now I know. And ya know? It was really cool... even though I'm not a Pope follower, it was really kinda exciting to see who would lead a whole bunch of people through the next X number of years... I can see how this is very important to a lot of people, and although I'm not Catholic, the Catholic force is huge in this country, and it does affect me and those around me. I'm interested in Catholic goings on, and I think we all should be. My entire extended family is Catholic to the max, and it's cool to see all of this stuff and how it works, and whatnot. So yeah, best of luck to Pope Benedict XVI. (That is 16, yes? I think so... I dunno.) My Presby prayers go out to him in his quest to become the best pope yet. (Do Popes compete for "best pope yet?" Are there Pope awards? Hmm...) Cool shit.
In making my usual blog rounds (this means reading my friends' blogs like I do frequently) I came across Tony's blog and was tickled to find that he writes differently than I. He addresses people directly in his blog. He doesn't talk in the third person. He treats it like it's a letter to somebody, or a way of addressing his public. I kinda like that. So for the remainder of this paragraph, I am going to do the same. How do you like that Tony? Yeah that's right, I'm talking to YOU Antonio DeCunzo. And hey, thanks for saying you liked the demo. I take pride in the fact that we wrote those songs. No covers on that puppy. And I also take pride in the fact that there are no voice filters on it, and no digital altering of pitches or even any note durations or anything. The only thing we did in the mixing room was mess with the volumes of stuff and add echo or reverb to the existing tracks. They didn't "fix" any of my singing. Not bad for a girl who had the Martian death flu that day, huh? Okay, I'm done bragging now. I am a little weirded out to hear that there's a philosophy book pertaining to Star Wars. It might be pretty cool though. And is the whole Losers Crew getting together to go see that movie? What day of the week is the 19th? Anyway, that's all about that. Hope you had a fabulous weekend, Tony. Now back to addressing the masses.
It occurs to me at this point that I have nothing to say to the masses. Kinda anticlimactic. Hey masses, you suck!
Just kidding, you don't suck.

Hi Claire
It's Michael (You probably know about a million Mike's, but I am Josh's friend (just returning the favor of identification like you did me, of course you probably know who the hell this is))
I like the new blog look...
It is more of a light atmosphere...
little less sophisticated and business like the last facade you had...(not that anything was wrong with that)
This makes it seem a little more friendly, though the font color is dificult to read by...
As far as the best Pope award...
That is a funny notion...
I wish I was the Pope, but then my parents would always be on my case
"they'd be like staighten your Pope hat and put on you good vestments..." [Amy talking to Fry in Futurama]
